I can't belief this one is selling for almost R1800 on E-bay. I have the exact same one stowed away in my drawer. To be honest, this is the first time I see one of these on the internet. I've been searching for info on it for a while now until this one popped up.

Does any one of you have perhaps more info on this razor?

Closest I can find is: http://www.mr-razor.com/Rasierer/Tech/1951%20(W3)%20black%20handle%20Tech.JPG

The topcap design and logo points towards 1950's, and Gillette switched to aluminum baseplates due to shortage of brass in this time period as well. Can't comment on the box or the price

This is where I show the Ebay advert to my wife to prove that razors are actually an investment!

You could be rich Bles!

Looks like a mismatch set, other than that it just looks like a plain old Tech. I don't think it's worth the asking price and I doubt that it will actually sell for that price. Some sellers just take a chance and hope that someone will buy it.

If you want to see some crazy prices have a look at what the Darwin razors sell for. They easily go for over $1000

Looks like a German razor handle and box, the head was probably lost or broken at some point and replaced with a Gillette Tech head. At least that what it seems like to me.

Thanks for the help and advice Jegreen, Jaquers and Chris. I think you’re spot on Chris. You’ve guided me in the correct direction when mentioning it as to be a German razor. I was able to found the following information on another auction site:

“DESCRIPTION: Offered to you is this original German WW2 Wehrmacht officers shaving set DRGM ( Deutsche Reich Registered Design ). Consists of a metal safety-razor in original box, original razor blades Soligen in original packings and a mirror made of metal so that it doesn’t break during wartime conditions. Scarce and highly collectable item. For condition see photos. Size: mirror 3”x2”; box 2 ½”x ½”; razors 2”x1”
German WWII items were destroyed at a great scale after the war by all participating countries. A couple of years ago we were able to completely buy out probably the only untouched military warehouse of leftover captured German WWII equipment including some precious Lazarett field hospital equipment and sets. Most of our items come in original, boxed and unused condition since the war. Most of the German military and medical items that we own and currently sell are among the only left of its kind in the world. Our stock is limited and like every good thing will soon come to an end, so take advantage of this opportunity to own authentic German WWII items.”

Mine also come with a Bakelite handle and the top cap also looks similar to this one they have on their photo. The only concern with mine is that the baseplate was that of a Muhle R89 which looks quite similar in shape to the one here on the photos. Maybe Muhle used their design when producing the R89? I doubt Gillette would have provided the Germans with shaving gear during WWII…

Your thoughts?

I’ll take some photos of mine and post it for you guys.

Here is some of the photos they posted...

Hey, Guys. It's been a while since I have last been on. I have one of these collapsible razors in its original clamshell steel box...FYI, I will be selling some straights shortly, if you are interested.

Hope you are all well otherwise.

Regards
