Olive oil as Pre-shave?

Postby SlimArchi » Sun Mar 31, 2019 6:11 pm

Evening everyone

I was wondering, would olive oil be good as a preshave?

I’ve read on some forums that some guys swear by it, but I’ve also heard that it could be quite bad (just read a comment from 2015 that said it kills lather).

I tried it the other day and got a bit of razor burn. However, this could have just been due to technique.

Does anyone use it as preshave or would it not be recommended?

Not a big fan of pre-shaves unless I haven't shaved a whole weekend. Normally a shower before a shave is better than any pre-shave. To much olive oil in a shave soap gives a very poor lather, not sure if it kills lather though. I just feel a pre-shave and lather should be able to wash off easily and oil would give me stains all over my shirt!

Marcello, olive oil in a shaving soap is a big detriment to the lather. It’s very healthy for the skin though. It’s also great in salads and it makes an awesome suntan oil! Lollllll

Seriously, I wouldn’t advise it as a pre-shave but I would wash my face with an olive oil soap. :)

Okay perfect!

I do shower before each shave and the times I don’t I find that my shaved aren’t great :(

My friend once used olive oil as a sun tan oil and came out looking a bit too crisp for her own liking! She peeled for the next month

At least you’re getting enough sun though!

Lollll It’s also because I generally go to the Caribbean in the winter and to the Mediterranean in the summer. However I have very dark colouring even without a tan. My wife is also dark, although less so than myself! Lolll

Lolllll Don’t be my friend! :)

Tan slowly and you’ll get a great colour. When my wife and I were in Greece a few summers ago a barmaid in a club nearly fainted when I spoke to her in perfect Greek because she thought I was black and she was really serious. When I told her where I’m really from she freaked out!

Our Italian friend Razorguy used to Olive oil as aftershave. He used to swear by it.

Olive oil kills lather so not to be used as pre shave.

I've tried it - messy and doesn't help much for shaving.
