Pearl Open Comb - Long Handle

Some thoughts on our Pearl Double Edge Safety Razor, the Open Comb Long Handle

Commonly referred to as the RazoRock Jaws Open Comb, the 3-piece razor comes in a plastic travel box, nothing thrilling but will more than serve it's purpose as a storage / travel container. The razor straight out of the box looks and feels great, it's beautifully plated, and it has nice weight to it.

The chrome plating is very thick and even, and the construction solid. The solid-brass handle is long, heavy, and well balanced, with aggressive knurling so that it won't slip from your soapy fingers.

There is a fair amount of blade exposure but very little blade gap, resulting in a close, irritation free efficient shave.

Nice. The RazoRock Jaws gets some good reviews.

How aggressive is this razor compared to the Muhle R89?

The OC versions of this razor are aggressive when compared to the Muhle R89 although efficient, blade pressure and angle are to be observed at all times. The reviews seen on the RazoRock Jaws are good reference to exactly how the razor performs in terms of head configuration. Would imagine the long handle provides somewhat different maneuverability and ease of use for gents with bigger hands.

I recently tried the short handle version: http://forums.mastershave.co.za/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=103&start=70#p945

Thanks, is the head interchangeable with Merkur / Muhle / Edwin Jagger / Parker handles?

Will definitely do some more research on this, what I did find was this:

"The threaded centre stud is surprisingly long"

"The head screwed securely into my Edwin Jagger handles and handmade stainless steel handle without any problems."

"The head screwed into my Tradere handle and MÜHLE R41 handle without a problem, except for the threaded centre stud bottoming out before locking the head firmly down in place."

"I therefore decided to (very carefully so not to damage the thread) remove 3 to 4mm from the threaded centre stud so I could attach the head securely to any handle I wanted..."

ThreadCut.jpg

(L to R) MÜHLE R41 - Open Comb 2011 head, RazoRock Jaws Open Comb head, Gillette Goodwill Open Comb head

"Yes this Open Comb head offers a shave on the more "aggressive" side of the scale, but when held correctly (offers a fair amount of wiggle room compared to the MÜHLE R41) it offers a smooth and very! efficient shave."
