Hi all,

After a long absence, Shavette's are back in stock. Took a while to find a quality that we were happy with. These are very nice.

Looking good ! Are these similar to the pakqueen? you had the last time or better? I must admit, I enjoy the shavette, it's easy and zero maintenance - how dear would the parker sr1 come it at?

The quality of these better than the Queen. I'll check up about the SR1 and let you know.

It is surprising how tricky it is to find a good and cheap shavette.

Good stuff River.

River,
Can you show a photo with a DE blade installed? or showing blade in position before you close up?

Nice new goodies RVT

btw, Interesting that Gillette came up with the DE instead of a shavette, which I think would be a more logical step forward from a SR. (although, I think there were others who invented the DE before Gillette)

Thanks Jacquers. Gillette invented the safety razor because apparently he hated the straights. :shifty:

Thanks River. That's a good size on the blade holder. Not excessively long.

Once the Kampfe brothers developed the first safety razor, the ease of shaving yourself became far more common place. Gillette's main contribution to shaving and his actual invention wasn't the safety razor but the wafer thin double edge blade that didn't require the maintenance of the wedge blade found in most other safety razors of that day.

The safety razor had been around for a good portion of Gillette's life already before he patented his invention. He was a traveling salesmen and didn't like the cumbersome nature of a straight or the maintenance required of most wedged blades of the day and thus went about trying to create a blade cheap enough, thin enough and disposable enough to do away with the chore of maintaining a blade or having to travel and use a straight.

The man really responsible for bringing Gillette's dream to fruition was a MIT engineer named Emery Nickerson who had to develop a process capable of producing such a sharp edge on such a thin piece of metal.

Some other interesting information on safety razors..
