Feather Artist Club

Postby deepsouth » Mon Jun 05, 2017 9:38 am

Hi gents,

I'm keen to pull the trigger on the Feather Artist Club shavette, I've been enjoying the super cheapo shavette shaves quite a bit and am pondering to get it upgraded. I can invest time to learn how to hone and just use my straights or drop a few $'s on a top tier shavette. I read a bit on the razor - it seems that the blades are supported by a 'spring mechanism' which makes the pressure to face an unknown - however many straight shavers are quite impressed with it. I have had some of my straights at Copia for a sharpen, but do find a bit of tugginess as opposed to the shavettes de blade

The differences between the SS and the DX is explained here http://www.feather.co.jp/eb_b.html or http://www.feather.co.jp/eB_B/pdf/FEATHER%20Professional%20Use%20201610.pdf

My conundrum is thus; do I get the SS to test drive the shavette and the yearn for the DX if I like it OR get the DX and regret my choice if I don't like it.
Approximately a R2k difference. Reviews for both tend to be on the positive side.

What would you do? If you had to get one, not both :oo

My search for a local supplier (with local stock) of Feather artists club razors and the whole range of feather blades was successful! Just placed my order too

Bundubeard has a live site with some slick products - custom eckard straights to name some
https://www.bundubeard.co.za/collections/straight-razors

Check out the stainless Feather DE's too

Thanks for the link on those Straights.

They look interesting and I presume it is a local artisan.

I've heard of him before but never saw his work - the slight smile to those razors are just  He is Capetonian, I'll try get some info here, wouldn't mind some of those scales...

In the end I went for the SS (thanks customs/duties), I also found a kamisori online and that is on it's way from abroad.

Sorry DS, I missed this post earlier.
I brought in my DX razor for R2751 that was incl shipping ex Japan and Vat on this end.

I did not like the rounded edge of the SS, so decided to bite the bullet and go with the DX.

On the blades, I would have bought from Bundubeard if he had the Professional supers, but he only had the plain professionals. I've paid R1300 to my door for 10 boxes (20 per box) of the supers, and customs did not charge vat for some odd reason. There is zero duty on blades.

No worries, I went for the SS for its rounded edge. If I am confident enough, I'll spring for the DX.
