Thanks :)

The Toggle looks nicer than it shaves, but that may be because it's alignment is skew, so it's a slant Toggle  And in general I get along better with the 3 piece Gillettes than the TTOs.

I know what you mean, I find both my fatboy and slim good, but the R41 better (3 piece) on adjustable the progress kicks gillette to the curb. Solid adjustable, no 4 feet / pads holding up the blade. If only it came in an open comb, I wouldn't touch another razor...

Thought I would post a couple pictures of my Old Type, Single Ring, Pocket Edition Gillette razor family.

Serial Numbers.jpg

All these razors give absolutely magnificent shaves - clean, close and smooth. The design is simple and practical, the small heads are perfect for getting right under the nose. The Old Types have slightly thicker heads but still give almost the same shave. I do give a slight node to increased efficiency from the thinner head models of the earlier type though.

btw, is there a difference in the curvature of the ABC razors vs the Old Types or just the thickness of the caps & baseplates?

Thanks gents.

I think the blade is held at the same angle so the differences would be mainly due to the thickness of the top cap. Another thing to keep in mind is that these Old Type razors have variances in build quality and two razors will have slight differences in tolerance, i.e. blade gap and so on.

The English Single Ring and the two ABC Pocket Edition razors were made before World War One, exact dating is not possible. Best guess is between 1910-13. The other American Single Ring with its 'M' serial number is from 1920.

The two Old Type razors and gold Single Ring razor don't have serial numbers and were made between 1921-28.

Chris' SOTD with the Myatt reminded me of this one I bought last year. It's a mild shaver with an interesting look and similar tooth design to the Myatt.

btw, it also has a 'micro adjust' indicator similar to an Eclipse Red Ring and its one of those where the baseplate is attached to the handle. The top cap and teeth are slightly curved on this one, but I think this is due to damage and not by design if I compare it to a photo found in the Safety Razor Compendium.
