Your Top Ten Soaps. (or crops or creams)

Postby JHBBlade » Wed Sep 27, 2017 10:13 pm

Okay here is the thinking.

Rocket Man Kim & Mr Trump have brought and end to the world as we know it. You have 5 minutes in which to choose only ten of your favourite soaps before heading into an underground bunker for a very long time.

Which soaps would you take with you? I'm curious to know.

After an initial choice (fortunately Kim & Don did not end the world) you may repost revisions of your top ten choice. As I'm sure your choice will improve over time.

My top ten, no order, would be :

1. RVT Roseline
2. RVT Midnight Lime
3. Wriggly Tin Rosemary Mint
4. Cella
5. Tabac
6. TOBS Sandalwood
7. Dovo Eucalyptus
8. Proraso Green
9. TOBS Grapefruit
10. Haslinger Ringelblumen

The soaps all perform well, and would give me a wide experience of sensory enjoyment if they were to be the last soaps I could ever buy!

And then on the bench in reserve would be

MWF
Cella
RVT Durban Bay Rum
P&B x1
MT x 3

Dammit, 10 soaps are clearly not enough.

I have less than 10 so I could take all of the one I have, but I'll list some that others haven't:

Perfect Shave - works well once grated and transplanted to a different container.

ShavehavenSA's soap (which was only produced in small quantities) - easy to lather and good performance.

Hopefully I'll get around to ordering and trying RVT's new formulation soaps sometime.

To name 5 would be quite unfair, wouldn’t you say. :hmmm It is almost like discriminating against some other pretty good soap and creams out there. There are plenty I like in my collection but to point out 5 that currently dominate my bathroom space it would be these 5.

In no particular order:

Proraso Red – I can’t belief this croap didn’t make any of your lists. :surprised
Proraso Green
RVT Greenfields
Razorock Green tobacco
La Toja shaving stick

I'd revise my list with these replacements
Remove; Replace
Mitchells WoolFat (don't use it enough for unknown reason) ; 3P
De vergulde hand (great scent, lacks cushion, but can rectify with loading more) ; Proraso Green

Soaps to leave my collection;
Figaro
Arko
Godrej
Haslinger
Palmolive stick
Lea stick
K Shave Cure for a Bellyache
Wriggly Tin

This post needs subheadings like;
Overall best
Best scent
Best performance
Ease of lather
Price vs Performance

Wow. Ymmv! Amazing how we all have different soap experiences!

Agree with DS. Will need different headings to see if we can make more sense of our perceptions.

I decided to keep the Figaro and acquire Vitos too. I really like Italian soaps. I'm passing these to my brothers as I have too many and change is good right? I need the space, seeing I'm not going to finish one soon.

Arko - excellent, scent not for me
Godrej - don't use it enough
Haslinger - excellent, will replace
Palmolive stick - don't use it enough
Lea stick - don't use it enough
K Shave Cure for a Bellyache - slight skin reaction, will miss the scent
Wriggly Tin - don't use it enough, will replace with another scent

Some soaps on my radar...but a fickle list at best
Boellis Panama 1924
Saponificio Varesino
Santa Maria del Fiore
Saponificio Bignoli
Barrister & Mann Reserve/Latha or Ltd release?

Hi all,

I'll made my list by price, i like cheap and great soap, also i've few expensive one. For your currency you need to zł * 4 ;) . Price is for 100gr

- Monsavone - France - 8zł (in FR less than 1€)
- Hasslinger Lanolin- Germany - 11zł
- Dusy Kabinett - Germany - 13zł - This soap is extremely cheap in Poland, no idea why (but good for me :D)
- Kent - England - 33zł - this is basically Mitchell Woll Fat, this soaps are made in this same soapery
- Wickham Russian Leather, Cola Club, Classic 24 - England - 55zł

And my favorite soaps, without prices ;)
- Crabtree & Evelyne Morocan Myrrh
- Saponificio Versanio Fern / Stella Alpina

Almost impossible to got in Poland
- RVT Rosaline - my wife loves this scent ;D have only sample

Yeah, as you see there is no soap from Poland, i don't really like creams (only Florena, Lavanda), you can buy only few artisan soaps in PL, they are very good, but makers need to work more ;)
In Poland -40 isn't cold, 40km isn't far, 40% isn,t vodka.

My top ten soaps? It's harder to answer than you think - no particular order:

1) Stirling Glacial Wintergreen
2) Stirling Glacial Spearmint
3) RVT Frosty Bay Rum
4) RVT Roseline
5) Tabac
6) Golddachs Spezial
7) Reitzer
8) Bundubeard Rooibos
9) Bundubeard Kameelperd's Kick
10) Arko

Honorable mentions:

Cella
Razorock One X
Krampert's Bay Rum
OSP Grapefruit Menthol
TSD Iced Subzero

These five soaps:

Proraso Green
Derby stick
North American Williams
Synergy Frostbyte
Razorock Don Marco

Could go and jump off a bridge - I hate them.
