La Belle Époque - Gibbs shaving stick

Postby JAYDEE » Thu Nov 08, 2018 12:01 am

Another antique shaving stick which is mainly a collectors item but I use it now and then. It’s excellent!

Ease of lathering: 10/10–Bursts into lather right away!

Longevity of lather: 10/10–Fantastic stability.

General skincare: 8.5/10–Wow, for a one hundred+ year old soap to be so skin-friendly!

Scent: 7/10–Very mild, soapy, but pleasant.

Price: 10/10–Would you believe I paid 3,50€ for it?

Would I buy again: 10/10–Absolutely. This is/was a French classic.

I bought this stick around three years ago while my wife and I were vacationing in Saint-Tropez on the French Riviera. This stick was around before the First World War and very popular in France where it was produced. I went into a tobacco store to buy some cigars for my father-in-law, and I saw this stick and another VERY old English soap so I jumped on both of them. This stick is proof positive that there’s nothing better than the old stuff! ;)
