SA knifemakers swop build : straight razor...

Thanks Guys!

I will have it sharpened shortly - ShavehavenSA will do that, I don't have the stones to do it well, and honestly i sharpen knives well, not razors... have to adjust the pinning and scales a bit, the wedge tapers in two directions, perhaps a smidgen too little dorso-ventrally... Will fix that before it goes of for sharpening...

Still busy tweaking the scale and wedge... but the sister razor was cinch to sharpen and i am shaving with it... just shows how much good geometry and heat treat helps...

That is a great looking razor & scales, who's going to take some snaps at the Knifemakers swop of the straights on show?

I've only seen this thread now. Great work Andre.

Below are some pics of Jack Conan's razors on display at the kgsa show today.

My pics turned out terribly. Hopefully someone has better snaps.

These razors are mind-blowing in-hand. 0.2mm stainless ultra hollow grind. Craftsmanship that is absolutely top drawer. I can't use enough superlatives, I suspect that in Mr Conan we may have one of the world's best straight razor craftsmen on our own stoep!

The carbon fibre scaled razor, the bad picture is particularly impressive, super narrow scales and geometry around the hinge make it beautiful to hold.

Jack Connan's razors, these are all rwl34 and i would say full hollow... very very nice, mine are quite overweight by comparison... very nimble in the hand...

Great photos of Jack's razors. I didn't take any photos and he sold 3 just before I got there.

I wasn't planning to but on impulse I did buy a 6/8" razor from him, the one labelled "razo5" in Andre's post.

Will collect it during the week and take some photos

Those razors look amazing
Is there any reason for the sharp curve near the beginning of the blade, like just after the shoulder? It looks a bit dangerous compared to other ordinary straights

Just a design feature of the shoulderless razor.

Thanks for the good photos Andre. Beautiful razors. You're right that Jack has made the razors very lightweight.

I'm looking forward to Thugs feedback on how the wafer thin blade shaves.

Congrats Thug on the impulse buy!

Super Duper!!

Might have to make up a second bed, next to Mr Iwasaki, inside the Brian Coetzee box.
