Small update... these and several other knives were heat treated on Saturday courtesy of a friendly knife and damascus steel maker.

I thought about getting a video of it being done... but between getting everything heated evenly and getting everything quenched in time it was a bit rushed...

Loads of fun...

Close but no cigar...
I got the edge thin enough 0.15mm... but theres some 60grit scratches that will probably make the blade disappear... and the edge wanders over from the one side to the other by about 0.3mm. The grind is too high... so the ratios are just over 4:1... so all in all i could set a bevel and get a decent edge with 3 layers of tape
With that the ratios are just more than 3.5:1...

It has popped arm hairs off easily since my 800 grit bevel setting stone... i have since managed to strop it blunt again...

This will be my razor, until i can build me a better one, as it really shouldnt leave the house...

It is much better than the other one i use...

Looks good Andre. Congrats on getting it done.

Any thoughts on what you would do differently next time to correct the issues that you encountered? Is it just a matter of more practise, or would you make any changes to the overall blade design?

The deep scratches in the centre of the blade is a common noob mistake and is mostly due to not placing the blade flat on the grinder... i.e pressing the one side into the belt first... or having the one side higher than the other... this just needs practice...

The other issue is mostly making damn sure the spine is flat and parallel all along the blade section... that was the root cause of the diagonal edge... my markings were out... and of course stepping back and checking when the blade is ground halfway... not 90%

The problem with getting in a hurry to finish something nice is that... you get to start all over again...

I cracked the scales and managed to lock up the razor a bit too tight...

Great effort Andre and hard luck with the scales.

Now that you have the shape, a replacement shouldn't take too long to sort out.

What would is it? an do you know where I can get wood for some scales?

Good work on the scales there Andre. Pity about the crack. I think for the next one you should put a small washer on before hammering down the pin.

I ordered some washers from the US beginning December but have not received it yet. I've never used this company before so let me be the guinea pig. I'll let you know if i ever receive the goods. It will be great if I do cause they have a huge variety. They called Micro Fastners
